With a traveling trophy and bragging rights on the line, the Dodge City Police and Fire Departments, teed off Saturday morning at Mariah Hills in their first Hero’s Golf Tournament to benefit the Meadowlark House.
The goal of the golf tournament is to foster cooperation among the two departments and to give them the opportunity to get to know people from the other department. A total of 26 players were joined by nearly as many volunteers and family members.
JAG construction provided lunch for everyone.
The golf tournament also benefited the Meadowlark House which serves child victims of crime in Ford County and the surrounding area.
Approximately $1,400 was raised for the Meadowlark House. This money will be used to ensure a safe space for children to be interviewed for law enforcement investigations. Last year the Meadowlark House provided 88 interviews as well as advocacy and referral services.
Although the temperature was cool and the wind was blowing, everyone had a good time. In the end, the Police Department was claimed the victory, the bragging rights and trophy until the two teams meet again for their upcoming softball game.
